The elders in the Kim Son open land once said that, in 1829, this uncultivated coastal land was reclaimed by the envoy Nguyen Cong Tru under the command of King Minh Mang. And Kim Son is the name he gave this place from that time, and has kept it until today.

Using his own experiences, in addition to realizing the "potential" of this place, he also transformed this place into a real "gold mine" with immense trees, sedge rice, and above all, the entire marine economy. And since then, the once wild land has been truly reclaimed and transformed into one of the most traditional craft villages in Ninh Binh today. After hundreds of years of working together to build sea dikes, the Kim Son people here have joined hands to create vast alluvial grounds to grow sedge, a main source of raw materials for weaving, and most of all is a friend and companion of the Kim Son people throughout a lifetime of hard work.

Attentiveness, meticulousness, and carefulness are important factors for artists in the process of creating a perfect fine art sedge product. Not to mention before that, in the "pre-production" stage, they also had to use their own creativity to come up with ideas, design, designs that were diversified, eye-catching, and improve and innovate product quality to adapt to current predilections. More specifically, today, they also apply the technique of using polyascera glue to spray coat the surface of sedge products, helping to stabilize the shape and improve the product's mold and moisture resistance.

Although it is not as old as other handicrafts such as embroidery, weaving, carving, etc., this fine art of making sedge still accompanies and follows many generations of people in this land. Today, after seven times of opening land and encroaching the sea to 'compete with creation', in Kim Son land, there are now about 4,000 hectares of sedge cultivation, 6 times more than in the early days of reclamation.

The people here have the unique characteristic of living in the cradle of the Sedge Craft Village for more than 200 years, so they have all the qualities of a true craftsman here. In addition, it is their skillful hands, acumen, high flexibility, agility, enthusiasm, and passion for the profession that have met the most stringent requirements of the profession of making fine art products from sedge.
