National historical relic Sung Khanh Pagoda


According to Decision No. 2599/QD-TTg, dated December 30, 2013, the Prime Minister recognized Sung Khanh Pagoda Stele as a national treasure, also a living evidence of a land with a long history. The cultural history of Ha Giang - Sung Khanh Pagoda - is a national treasure and is being exploited for tourism for the local economy. After 11 years of building Sung Khanh Pagoda, the pagoda stele was also erected in 1367 (as recorded by researchers). The pagoda stele is placed on a stone turtle, with an extremely unique feature: the stele's forehead is completely covered in bow-shaped decorations with ribbon, and is divided into 3 panels. This stele's forehead is considered a very special decorative combination and has never been seen on any other stele in Vietnam...

The stele carries many great values. First, in terms of text, the stele is considered an original document that has the effect of comparing some forms of the Tran Dynasty when studying other texts. Venerable Thich Thanh Phuc said that for many years, the Party Committee and authorities of Vi Xuyen district and Dao Duc commune, and the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ha Giang province have always done a good job of preserving and promoting the value of historical relics in the area and is one of the highlights, attracting tourists on their spiritual and cultural tourism journey when coming to Ha Giang.

Every year, on the full moon day of the first lunar month, people of all ethnic groups in Dao Duc commune organize the incense offering ceremony at Sung Khanh pagoda and the Long Tong festival to pray for favorable weather, bountiful crops, prosperity for all families, and increasingly tight solidarity among ethnic groups.

The ceremony and festival are the two main parts that appear in the Long Tong festival. The main ritual part is offering to heaven, earth, and the gods for favorable weather, healthy people, lush vegetation, and bountiful crops.

The tray of offerings includes sticky rice, chicken, pork, Banh Chung, Banh Day, Banh Khao, Lam rice,and  five-color sticky rice...is jointly prepared by the Tay ethnic people here for this sacred holiday. Not only does it have a long-standing historical and cultural value, Sung Khanh Pagoda is also a place associated with many people here.
