The Sacred Destination in Phu Quoc - Dinh Cau with Over 300 Years of History

Dinh Cau Phu Quoc is located in Ward 2, Duong Dong Town, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province. It is one of the tourist spots in Phu Quoc close to the city center, making it convenient for travelers to visit. Built on a rocky promontory extending into the sea, Dinh Cau faces the Duong Dong Sea, offering visitors a panoramic view of the deep blue sea and clear sky.

Dinh Cau Phu Quoc has a history of over 300 years

According to records, Dinh Cau was constructed in the 17th century when only a few people lived on the island. During a severe storm, many fishermen faced peril at sea, but miraculously, they were rescued and brought ashore to this rocky promontory. In gratitude, the locals built Dinh Cau in 1937 and underwent renovations in 1997.

Dinh Cau Phu Quoc worships Goddess Ngoc Nuong Nuong along with two attendants, Cau Tai and Cau Quy. Locals believe that these deities will protect them from misfortunes at sea. Therefore, before each sea voyage, they come to Dinh Cau to pray for safety and blessings for their families and work.

The sacred architecture of Dinh Cau Phu Quoc

Dinh Cau Phu Quoc features architectural elements influenced by northern temples, with vibrant curved red-tiled roofs and two impressive dragon-engraved columns. Additionally, the roof is adorned with two dragons and a moon made of delicate porcelain. The path leading to Dinh Cau consists of 29 stone steps, and along the way, there is a small shrine for the local earth deity. The courtyard is paved with cement and hosts a unique "Ong Thien" table.

Dinh Cau Phu Quoc is not only a place of worship but also an opportunity for tourists to admire the stunning natural scenery of the pearl island. From Dinh Cau, visitors can witness a radiant sunset over the sea or marvel at the 14-meter lighthouse standing next to it. Moreover, tourists can descend to the rocky beach for swimming, photography, or enjoying fresh seafood.
