Tran Temple Festival in Thai Binh Province

The Tran Temple Festival is one of the significant and traditional festivals of Thai Binh Province, the homeland of the Tran dynasty, a heroic and illustrious dynasty that successfully repelled the Mongol invaders three times. The festival takes place annually from the 13th to the 18th day of the lunar January at the Special National Monument of the Mausoleum and Temple of the Tran Kings (in Tien Duc commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province). This festival serves not only as a time to remember and express gratitude for the great contributions of our forefathers in building and defending the nation, but also as an occasion to showcase the unique culture of Thai Binh and the Long Hung-Hung Ha region.

The Tran Temple Festival consists of two main parts: the ceremony and the fair. The ceremony involves solemn and traditional activities such as offering incense at the tombs of the Tran Kings, opening the temple gates, offering the record-breaking pair of cakes in Vietnam at the Tran Kings' temple, the water and fire procession, the ritual of paying respects, and the performance of calligraphy with two verses composed by King Tran Nhan Tong. These activities symbolize reverence and connection with the Tran Kings, as well as prayers for a peaceful and prosperous harvest.

The fair features diverse and appealing entertainment and cultural exchange activities, including fish cooking competitions, land fireworks competitions, making traditional square sticky rice cakes, traditional rice cooking contests, the provincial traditional martial arts competition, an art photography exhibition of Thai Binh province celebrating the Party and the Spring, tug-of-war contests in Hung Ha district, a local community arts festival in Hung Ha district, and Vietnamese Poetry Day. These activities aim to create a joyful and uplifting atmosphere for the New Year and to introduce and preserve the unique folk cultural values of Thai Binh.

The highlight of the 2023 Tran Temple Festival is the spectacular and outstanding art program called "East Asian Spirit," meticulously staged and performed during the festival's opening night. The program consists of two parts: Part 1 with the theme "Echoes of Thai Binh," featuring songs about Thai Binh, the Party, and Uncle Ho; Part 2 with the theme "Aspirations of Spring - Brightening the Future," including lively artistic performances with songs about Tet, Spring, and the country. The program will be broadcast live on Thai Binh Radio and Television, and directly on VTC Digital Television.

The Tran Temple Festival in Thai Binh province is a deeply meaningful historical, cultural, and spiritual festival, representing a precious heritage of the Vietnamese people. It not only provides an opportunity to express gratitude and pride for the significant contributions of our ancestors to the nation but also serves as a platform to preserve and promote traditional cultural values, contributing to the construction of a prosperous, civilized, and modern Thai Binh.
